Key Features and Specifications
The Metrix MX2034 4-20 mA Proximity Transmitter is a versatile device offering three distinct operating modes:
Vibration Mode
-
Selectable Full-Scale Range:
Users can choose a full-scale vibration range from 3 mils pk-pk (75 µm pk-pk) up to 40 mils pk-pk (1000 µm pk-pk). This flexibility allows engineers and maintenance teams to configure the transmitter to suit various equipment and monitoring needs. -
Spike Suppression Functionality:
Though used infrequently, this feature proves valuable in facilities experiencing significant electrical transients. The MX2034’s high sampling rate enables it to distinguish between genuine and false vibration signals. This function can be enabled through the free Metrix configuration software. -
Adaptive 4-20 mA Output Decay Rate:
The transmitter responds quickly to rising vibration levels but slows down its response to decreasing levels, delivering more stable and reliable readings.
Position Mode
-
Accurate Linear Measurement:
The position measurement range is adjustable from 40 mils (1000 µm) to 160 mils (4500 µm). Unlike many other systems, the MX2034’s 10 mils setting corresponds physically to 10 mils, not just electrically, ensuring more precise and trustworthy position readings. -
4-20 mA Signal Direction Configuration:
Users can set the signal to respond either upscale or downscale, depending on the expected direction of movement—easily done using the Metrix software.
Speed Mode
-
Wide RPM Range Support:
The MX2034 supports speed detection from 500 rpm up to 400,000 rpm, allowing the configuration of custom speed ranges that map directly to the 4-20 mA output. For lower speeds (e.g., 50 rpm), a multitooth gear and proper scaling in the control system (PLC or SCADA) are required. -
Pulse Handling via Keyway Count:
When used with a multitooth wheel, the transmitter can handle up to 400,000 pulses per minute. For example, a machine running at 100,000 rpm can accommodate up to 4 pulses per revolution. -
Auto and Manual Threshold Voltage Settings:
The threshold voltage is automatically configured by default but can be manually set using the free configuration software. When switching to manual mode, the user must also define the hysteresis band. -
Hysteresis Control for Accuracy:
Hysteresis adds a tolerance band around the threshold to improve speed measurement accuracy. While typically set to Auto, manual tuning is recommended in noisy environments to minimize false triggers.
